          Mother's day Ride 05/08/2011

Well what was suppose to be talking my mom into going on a trail ended with her at least getting back on. It was interesting to say the least but then again look were we board at there are always interesting things going on at this farm.

Well we arrive at the barn and I'm trying to figure out how I can convince my mom to come trail ride with me and I notice that Chris's truck is here she is a lady that leases the old stallion at the barn. She likes to just do putt putt rides so I think this is perfect.  Boy was I wrong.

We start tacking up everything is normal Secret and Brandy are just falling asleep in cross ties even with little kiddies running around the barn. ( I tell ya my TB sure is a killer horse *not*).  I go to mount Brandy and hear this RIP sound and I'm thinking that wasn't what I thought it was I hope so I check sure enough though the hole wasn't big bu t my pants have ripped. This should have been an ill omen from the get go. So before my mom mounts Lindsy another boarder tells Secret that she has to behave and make sure to take care of my mom so that she will want to go riding again. So we all mount and head out of the barn. Now Secret is following Sharky and I'm leading on Brandy. Sharky does his little call to all the mares and my mom notes that Secret did something weird with her head after he did that. Well I've taken Secret out a ton of times and she does sometimes toss her head so I reassure my mom its normal. Again I didn't see it so I just assumed it was her normal head toss. Secret is acting a little uppity so I assume its cause she hasn't been trail riding all winter but its nothing bad just her normal little slow trotty prance thing she does. We get over the small bridge and we are all not sure where to go as I didn't want to do anything long for my mom's sake. So Chris says we will go back the dirt bike track for now and decide were to go after that.

Here is where it all goes wrong. Since Secret was acting up I tell my mom to go ahead in front of me and I will be the last horse. Which Brandy could care less were she is in a trail ride. Last place is perfect cause she can dog walk the day away. Anyway so we get to the end of the long dirt road were there is a small circle and a whole bunch of dirt jumps set up, well at first Chris wanted to go through the water but I know Secret isn't great with water so we change direction by now Secret is wound tight and ready to explode and I keep prying she will calm down soon. Nope not at all we turn around to head out and she's had enough she tosses her head like a groupie listening to there favorite band and proceeds to prance side to side and back up and just be a pain. I see my mom tense up and start to panic and then I see Secret buck. As soon as she bucked I literally flew off of Brandy's back not minding she's 16.2 and its a far drop and the fact she is still moving. Thank god I have a nice horse and she just stops and stands there watching me like What the heck are you doing lady. I grab Secret by the reins and  my mom's a bit panicky at this point I have her hop down. I proceed to jump on and sure enough she's being a bratt for me to. Well I notice she's fanning her tail a lot and then it hits me. Mrs Secret is in heat and we are out with a Stallion no wonder she wants to be leading the pack. ::eye roll:: So I jump back down and my mom says she will just walk her back to the barn on foot. I agree but tell her not to untack her and don't give her treats of any kind as I will ride her when I get back. Since Chris was all tacked and ready I figured I'd continue on anyway since I know Brandy needs to be worked more before the St Judes ride in June. So now the problem is how the heck do I get on the sky scrapper of a horse from the ground with no mounting block. My mom had her hands already full with Secret so a leg up wasn't going to happen. So I search the area looking for a place I can get on and decide one of the jumps is a good idea. YA NOT. These jumps are all made of lose dirt but I go ahead anyway set Brandy up and heave myself over her. I think I heaved to hard cause Brandy went to readjust to my weight and slipped in the dirt and then I heaved myself right over her onto the dirt on the other side seemingly doing a flip in there some point. Again thank god she's a saint she not only didn't step on me but she didn't run away either as I lay on the ground trying to understand how the heck I got here. So I get dust myself off and grab her reins all the while laughing at my stupidity as my first Fall of 2011 had to be so lame as miss mounting a horse. Kat=0 Ground=1.

So we go down the trail a bit were there are rocks at the end and a nice flat even surface I get back on only to hear RIP My thoughts OH no not again. I check and what was just a small ripped has now become a HUGE rip. OH well these Jeans are done they will be made into shorts when I get home. So my mom heads back to the barn. Chris,Sharky, Me and Brandy all continue on with are trail ride which with these 2 was uneventful accept for me being astounded at how much a Shark can poop on a trail ride. What I thought was gonna be a nice short ride turned into at least an 8miler. We did it all at the walk which was fine nothing wrong with a putt putt ride.  Brandy at the start of are ride dog walked like no tomorrow I sure a snail could have passed us with how speedy we were going.Sharky was losing us for the good first half the ride before She finally matched pace with him and we caught up and she stayed there all the way till the end. She was relaxed head down ears just kinda there not alert at all. I still can't believe she's only been off the track a year and I've never put any formal training on her but she's just the best horse ever.

Anyway moving on cause the trail ride was long and uneventful but was nice. As we are just getting back to the barn we see Secret my mom and Lindsay and Bee-Bee her horse all heading down the driveway. My mom said they were gonna go ride in the ring so I left Sharky go back to the barn and followed them on Brandy. Trying to enter the pasture were the ring was is the fun part cause Flame wanted to try and help and followed us into the ring and then wouldn't leave. It took me holding Secret will sitting on Brandy and Lindsay leaving BeeBee just eat grass to finally scoot Flame out of the ring. I must stay I'm very proud of my mom. Though Secret was acting up she got back on her and made her work even if it was just in the ring she got back on so that's all that mattered. We didn't do much in the ring just walked around. I trotted brandy a bit and we all dismounted and left but it was a good experience I probably had the most fun but my mom will be working in the ring with Secret every weekend now and I will be taking her out during the week so both of us and are horses are ready for the St Judes ride in June.

I swear this place is cursed with Dodieism as we would call it. Never a dull moment
